Aspartame is about 200 times sweeter than sugar, which is why the FDA has called it safe, or not toxic, for the general public, including some of the following:

The FDA also considers the plant and fruit-based sweeteners stevia, monk fruit, and thaumatin to be safe, but stevia leaf and unrefined stevia extracts are not considered safe due to “insufficient toxicological data.”

Steviol glycoside “Stevia” is a pure extract obtained from stevia leaves.
