The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has secured what officials described as the biggest commercial deal in the country’s cricket history, with its four-year media rights sold for Rs26 billion.
According to details, the media rights were awarded to Walee Technologies after competitive bidding. Three bidders participated in the process, and the successful company submitted a bid reportedly Rs3 billion above the reserve price.
Sources indicated that matches may likely be broadcast on state television, while two major sports channels were disqualified from the bidding process after failing to clear outstanding dues within the given timeframe.
The league, which featured 34 matches last year, is expected to expand to 44 matches following the inclusion of two new teams.
Under the agreed terms, after deducting production costs, any broadcasting deal exceeding Rs3 billion annually will allocate $500,000 from the additional amount for contracts with icon foreign cricketers. Of the remaining revenue, 80 percent will go to the Pakistan Cricket Board, while 20 percent will be distributed among the franchises.
