The Senate unanimously passed a resolution condemning Afghanistan’s alleged aggression on the western border and calling on the international community to take immediate notice of what it described as an irresponsible attitude. The resolution stated that Pakistan’s desire for peace must not be interpreted as weakness.

The House affirmed that no compromise would be made on the dignity and sovereignty of the Pakistani nation, adding that any aggressive action would be met with a proportionate and effective response. It emphasized that political differences had been set aside and that the country stood united in defense of national security.

The resolution paid tribute to the bravery, professionalism and sacrifices of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, stating that they have remained steadfast in defending the homeland in every era.

It further noted that Pakistan has faced extraordinary social, economic and security challenges over the past 40 years. Cross-border incursions and the presence of anti-Pakistan terrorist elements were described as contrary to bilateral understandings, urging Afghanistan to immediately halt all hostile actions.

The resolution also called on Afghanistan to ensure that its territory is not used for terrorism against Pakistan. It reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to international obligations and its aspiration for regional stability.

During the debate, PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar said that if anyone even casts a hostile glance toward the country, a strong response would be given, adding that the nation would stand united whenever the issue concerns national security. He stated that while terrorism is condemned, practical solutions must be pursued. He proposed the establishment of a regional security framework involving all countries with stakes in the region to collectively address security challenges.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani stated that the Senate stands with the Pakistan Army and fully supports its recent operations against terrorists. He adjourned the Senate session until 2 p.m. on Monday.
