Pakistan’s all-rounders Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan etched their names in the record books during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight clash against England, achieving significant individual milestones in a high-pressure encounter.
Left-arm spinner Nawaz brought up his 100th T20 International wicket at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, delivering a disciplined spell of 2 for 20 in his three overs. The performance made him only the fourth Pakistani bowler to reach the landmark in T20Is.
The 31-year-old has now claimed 100 wickets in 97 matches at an impressive average of 20.88, maintaining an economy rate of 7.16. He joins an elite list of Pakistani bowlers that includes Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, while Shadab already sits ahead with 123 wickets. Afridi leads the tally among Pakistan bowlers with 135 wickets to his name.
Beyond his bowling exploits, Nawaz has also contributed significantly with the bat, scoring 911 T20I runs so far. He now needs just 89 more runs to become the second Pakistani cricketer after Shadab to complete the rare double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in the shortest format.
Shadab, meanwhile, achieved a milestone of his own in the same match. Coming in during the closing stages of Pakistan’s innings, the leg-spinner smashed a brisk 23 runs to cross the 1,000-run mark in T20 Internationals. He became the 11th Pakistani batter to reach the four-figure tally in the format.
With this achievement, Shadab has also become the first Pakistani cricketer to complete the double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in T20Is. Globally, he is the sixth player to reach the landmark, joining distinguished all-rounders such as Mohammad Nabi, Sikandar Raza and Hardik Pandya.
The twin milestones provided a silver lining for Pakistan amid mounting scrutiny over the team’s recent performances, with former players and analysts calling for greater consistency in crunch matches.
