The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has recovered 43.11 acres of prime land belonging to Pakistan Railways, marking a significant development in its efforts to safeguard state assets. The recovered property, located at Survey Numbers 48, 49, 50 and 51 in Deh Khanto, Juma Goth, Karachi, is valued at Rs. 9,671 million.
According to details, the recovery follows a prolonged investigative process initiated on July 13, 2019, after allegations surfaced that government land had been encroached upon by private textile mills. Although the inquiry was temporarily closed following a Supreme Court decision, it was rescheduled in 2025 at the request of Pakistan Railways. The renewed investigation focused on officials from the Railway and Revenue Departments, among others, in connection with the alleged encroachment.
While Pakistan Railways maintained that possession of the land had been secured in 2021 in compliance with Supreme Court orders, NAB’s findings indicated that private textile mills continued to occupy the site. Following completion of the inquiry, NAB officials proceeded with recovery measures, resulting in the land being formally retrieved and handed over to the physical possession of Pakistan Railways.
Officials described the development as a major institutional achievement, stating that the recovery underscores NAB’s commitment to protecting public property and addressing illegal occupation of state assets. The Bureau reiterated its resolve to continue efforts aimed at strengthening accountability and ensuring that valuable government land remains under lawful custody.
