Former prime minister Imran Khan underwent a scheduled follow-up eye procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on earlry Tuesday morning, and was discharged in stable condition, according to a press release issued by the hospital’s executive director.
The statement said Imran Khan, 74, was brought to PIMS for his second dose of anti-VEGF intravitreal injection as part of ongoing eye treatment. Prior to the procedure, he was examined by a board of specialists, including a consultant cardiologist who performed echocardiography and an electrocardiogram, both of which were reported as normal. A consultant physician also evaluated him and found him to be clinically stable.
After obtaining informed consent, the second intravitreal anti-VEGF injection was administered under microscopy guidance by a consultant ophthalmologist and a consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon from PIMS and Al-Shifa Eye Hospital. The hospital said the procedure was conducted as a day-care surgery under standard monitoring and precautionary protocols in the operation theatre.
According to the press release, Imran Khan remained vitally stable before, during and after the procedure. He was discharged with post-procedure care instructions, follow-up advice and relevant medical documentation. — LORD
