A video of a 60-year-old traditional healer (Hakim) marrying a young woman has gone viral on social media, prompting widespread discussion and mixed reactions from users.
Following the circulation of the clip, a reporter visited the newly married couple for a brief interview. Responding to criticism, the man said that their relationship began with mutual affection, stating that they first developed feelings for each other and later formalised the bond through nikah.
He explained that the marriage was both an arranged and love marriage, saying the couple mutually agreed before tying the knot. Standing beside him, his wife confirmed his statement, saying that the account was accurate.
The groom added that age does not matter if the heart is young, and questioned the negative comments online. He said his wife was previously divorced and that he acted in accordance with religious teachings, insisting that he had done nothing wrong.
He further stated that they did not engage in any unlawful relationship prior to marriage and questioned why people were posting negative remarks. According to him, criticism often comes from those who prefer relationships outside marriage.
The bride also said that when two people develop genuine affection, age becomes irrelevant, and once a decision is made from the heart, there should be no delay in formalising the relationship through nikah.
Reports indicate that the bride appeared happy in the viral video, and members of both families have expressed satisfaction over the union.
Meanwhile, several social media users have praised the couple’s decision, arguing that they chose marriage over an illicit relationship and emphasising that society should encourage nikah rather than normalise inappropriate relationships.
