Popular Pakistani actress Ushna Shah has written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz urging action against the mistreatment of animals across the province.
Sharing the letter on her Instagram account, Ushna Shah began by appreciating the Chief Minister’s efforts in sanitation, public safety, and women’s protection. However, she highlighted a pressing issue that continues to go unnoticed: cruelty toward animals.
Referring to a recent incident, Ushna Shah wrote that she saw a video of a dog being tied to a car and dragged along a major road in Punjab. She noted that comments on the video suggested public perception that the Chief Minister condones such acts, whether true or not, as animal abuse incidents remain frequent and largely unaddressed.
The letter also cited other cases of animal cruelty, including organized dog fights, mistreatment of donkeys, and abuse of animals in local markets. Ushna Shah proposed key measures to curb such incidents, including strict enforcement of animal cruelty laws, banning the domestication of wild animals, and launching public awareness programs across the province.
She concluded by emphasizing that showing compassion toward animals in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Prophet ﷺ could set a positive example not just for Punjab but for the entire country, inspiring leaders in other provinces to follow suit.
