Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the younger brother of King Charles III, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, British police confirmed, in a dramatic development that has drawn global attention.

Thames Valley Police said officers took a man in his sixties into custody at his residence on the Sandringham Estate in eastern England, as part of an investigation into allegations he may have disclosed sensitive government information during his time as a UK trade envoy.

The force, in line with national guidance, did not publicly name the individual but noted that he remains in police custody as the inquiry continues.

The arrest comes amid scrutiny over newly released documents suggesting Mountbatten-Windsor shared confidential trade reports with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein allegations that have resurfaced following the release of extensive files by the US government. Authorities have also conducted searches at addresses linked to the former prince in both Norfolk and Berkshire.

Thursday marked Mountbatten-Windsor’s 66th birthday, and while he has previously denied any wrongdoing related to his association with Epstein, this latest development represents a rare move against a senior figure tied to the British royal family. Buckingham Palace has not yet issued an official statement on the arrest.

The offense of misconduct in public office a common law charge in the UK can carry significant legal consequences if proven, and the investigation continues with updates expected as authorities proceed.
