UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned Israel’s decision to resume land registration procedures in Area C of the occupied West Bank, warning that the move “could lead to the dispossession of Palestinians of their property and risks expanding Israeli control over land in the area,” his spokesperson said.
The measures, stemming from a May 2025 cabinet decision, were described as destabilizing and unlawful, with the UN citing the International Court of Justice’s rulings.
Guterres stressed that the actions further undermine the prospects for a two-state solution.
Guterres reiterated that all Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, lack legal validity and violate international law and relevant UN resolutions. He urged all parties to preserve a negotiated two-state solution as the only path to lasting peace.
