A Chinese drone light show has set a new Guinness World Record for the greatest number of multirotor drones airborne simultaneously and controlled from a single computer, with 22,580 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) taking to the skies in coordinated flight.

The record breaking display took place in Hefei, Anhui Province, where Guangdong based EHang Egret Media Technology Co., Ltd. orchestrated the mass deployment of next generation GHOSTDRONE 4.0 (“GD4.0”) drones. The synchronized flight was registered by Guinness World Records under the title “most multirotor/drones airborne simultaneously from a single computer (outdoors).”

The unprecedented aerial spectacle was part of the 2026 China Media Group Spring Festival Gala celebrations in Hefei’s Luogang Park, captivating audiences with intricate formations produced by the massive drone fleet under the control of a single system.

EHang, a major player in advanced air mobility technologies, paired the drone display with formation flights of its 16 pilotless EH216 S electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, illustrating both cutting edge UAV coordination and broader innovations in aerial technology.

The achievement highlights rapid advancements in drone command and control systems, high precision positioning, and intelligent coordination — pushing the boundaries of large scale UAV operations and showcasing China’s growing role in aerial technology.
