Security forces and law enforcement agencies successfully repelled a terrorist attack on a joint checkpost in Bajaur district, killing 12 terrorists while 11 personnel were martyred, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR said that on February 16, 2026, terrorists linked to “Fitna al-Khawarij” and operating under Indian backing attempted a cowardly assault on the joint security post. The attackers tried to breach the post’s security, but the timely and resolute response of Pakistan’s forces thwarted their plans decisively.

Troops targeted fleeing terrorists, eliminating 12 of them, while the attackers, in a final attempt, rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the checkpost’s perimeter wall. The blast destroyed the post’s infrastructure and tragically killed 11 security personnel. Nearby residential buildings were also damaged, resulting in the death of a young girl and injuries to seven civilians, including women and children.

ISPR added that clearance and sanitization operations are ongoing to eliminate any remaining India-backed terrorists in the area. Pakistan’s security agencies will continue counterterrorism operations under the National Action Plan and the vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam.”

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the valiant security personnel, saying their sacrifice destroyed the plots of Fitna al-Khawarij and that their courage and martyrdom will always be remembered.
