Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has called for an end to political interference in cricket, describing the current phase as one of the darkest periods in the country’s cricketing history.
In a statement, Mohammad Yousuf said it was painful to witness the decline of a team that once commanded respect on the global stage. He stressed that incompetent individuals must be removed not only from key administrative positions but also from the team setup.
He maintained that until political interference and personal agendas are eliminated from the sport, Pakistan cannot rebuild a side capable of consistent international success.
Earlier, Mohammad Yousuf had also remarked that the time of senior players including Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Shadab Khan was over, urging selectors to induct fresh performers into the T20 squad.
In a post on social media platform X, he stated that Pakistan’s T20 side needs new match-winners and that hollow victories against weaker opponents would no longer suffice.
His remarks come in the wake of Pakistan’s 61-run defeat to India in a crucial ICC Men’s T20 World Cup match, a result that intensified debate over the team’s direction and leadership.
