Veteran Pakistani actress Abida Beg has appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for assistance, sharing her plight in a viral social media video.
In the clip, the actress, known for her role as Chandi in the classic drama Sona Chandi, can be seen visibly distressed while requesting help. She recounted her struggles, saying, “I am Abida Beg, who has served the arts for 35 years. My late husband, Mirza Rashid Akhtar, worked in this industry for 40 years. Even when we had funerals at home, we used to go to shows, but now I am in extreme distress.”
She added that she has faced significant hardships, including the loss of her home. “I have two children and grandchildren, and our income is not enough to afford rented accommodation. I appeal to Chief Minister Punjab and Information Minister Azma Bukhari to hear me and grant me a meeting,” she said.
Abida Beg emphasized that her house was her only asset and urged the Chief Minister for support. “You have said that women are your red line. Please, I am a hardworking Pakistani artist, I have given my life to the arts. I beg for your help and support,” she pleaded.
