Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the digital traffic challan system “One App” in the city, marking the first evidence-based traffic enforcement system implemented nationwide.
According to a traffic police spokesperson, the new system ensures transparency by issuing video-evidenced challans. All traffic violations will be recorded on video, which will be stored securely and verifiable.
Officials stated that the system will verify national ID cards, driving licenses, and check for stolen vehicles on the spot. Vehicle ownership, fitness certificates, and route permits will also be instantly verified.
The traffic police spokesperson added that the digital system will also handle violations related to encroachments and environmental offenses. Under the integrated system, e-challans will be linked to FIR status and criminal records. In a later phase, a points system and FIR registration for traffic violations will be introduced.
Citizens will receive details of traffic violations via QR codes, the spokesperson said.
DIG Muhammad Waqas Nazir remarked that the digital evidence-based system will ensure fair, transparent, and unbiased enforcement of traffic rules.
