The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced key measures to ensure the protection of female students in universities across the province.
According to an official statement, strict enforcement of a code of conduct governing interaction between faculty members and female students has been directed. University administrations have also been instructed to ensure prompt redressal of complaints filed by female students.
The statement said that awareness seminars against harassment have been made mandatory in all public sector universities. Institutions have been directed to organize at least quarterly workshops each year. Awareness regarding the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act 2010 and the Higher Education Commission’s policy will also be ensured.
On the directives of the Chief Minister, an inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the harassment case at the University of Peshawar. The chief minister has sought reports from all universities and ordered immediate implementation of the issued directives.
The statement further said that the Higher Education Department has been instructed to submit regular reports on compliance.
