China on Thursday firmly rejected and strongly condemned recent criticism by the United States over Chancay Port, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Speaking at a daily press briefing, Lin Jian responded to questions regarding statements made by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. Lin called the U.S. remarks “blatant vilification and smear” and reaffirmed China’s opposition to any attempts to politicize or undermine the project.
Chancay Port, located in Peru, is a deep-water port and South America’s first smart green port. The project is considered a flagship initiative under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), symbolizing strategic cooperation between China and Peru in trade and infrastructure.
Lin stressed that Chancay Port has been developed with mutual benefit and high environmental standards and plays a significant role in promoting regional economic growth. The Chinese government expects all parties to respect the constructive nature of the project rather than issue politically motivated criticisms.
