Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken immediate notice of the new solar regulations issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and directed the Power Division to file a review petition without delay.
The prime minister instructed the Power Division to immediately approach NEPRA with a review plea to ensure full protection of contracts of existing solar consumers. He emphasized that every possible step should be taken to safeguard the interests of current consumers under their existing agreements.
The prime minister further stated that the burden of 466,000 solar consumers should not be shifted onto more than 37.6 million consumers who rely solely on electricity from the national grid. He directed the Power Division to formulate a comprehensive strategy in this regard.
It is pertinent to mention that a high-level special meeting was convened in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to review NEPRA’s newly issued regulations. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, Adviser on Privatization Muhammad Ali, and other senior officials concerned.
