China rejects U.S. nuclear test accusations as unfounded

China on Wednesday rejected U.S. accusations that it has conducted nuclear explosive tests, calling the claims “entirely unfounded” and accusing Washington of fabricating excuses to justify resuming its own nuclear testing.

Responding to a query at a regular press briefing, foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said persistent U.S. distortion and smearing of China’s nuclear policy constitutes political manipulation, aimed at pursuing nuclear hegemony and evading Washington’s own nuclear disarmament obligations.

“China firmly opposes this,” Lin said, stressing that the United States is the biggest source of disruption to both the international nuclear order and global strategic stability.

Lin also criticized the U.S. for allowing the New START Treaty to expire without renewal, saying the move has severely undermined mutual trust among major powers and shaken global strategic stability.
