The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is awaiting a formal response from the International Cricket Council (ICC) on matters related to the T20 World Cup, particularly the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match.
According to sources, the ICC’s reply has gained significance following recent meetings in Lahore, where Pakistan and Bangladeshi officials effectively placed the issue in the ICC’s court. ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja is expected to share the meeting minutes with ICC Chairman Jay Shah and Chief Executive Sanjay Gupta.
Sources said that any breakthrough regarding the World Cup matters is contingent on ICC’s response. Pakistan has acted as a bridge between ICC and Bangladesh, advocating strongly for equitable treatment of the Bangladeshi team. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that Bangladesh should receive its full share of World Cup revenues and called for ICC apologies to the team and its fans.
Pakistan also demanded an increase in Bangladesh’s Test Championship matches and opportunities to host ICC events to address prior grievances. Additionally, assurances were sought that no board member would be excluded from ICC events in a manner similar to Bangladesh and that India’s dominance in the sport be curtailed.
The PCB urged the ICC to ensure decisions are based on merit rather than influence, and that India fully adhere to the principles and traditions of the gentleman’s game.
