Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday praised the people of Lahore for celebrating Basant safely, saying the city upheld rules and ensured a joyful yet secure festival.
In an official statement, she said, “Lahore is very happy today, and I am also very happy. Alhamdulillah, the people of Lahore followed guidelines and played an important role in celebrating Basant safely. The spirit of joy remained intact while safety was ensured.”
She noted that kite flying continued with enthusiasm, sweets were shared, and rooftops became arenas of playful competition. “There were no reports of banned strings being used, and all activities were conducted within prescribed limits,” she added.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that rooftops observed SOPs, and the absence of metal wires kept transformers safe. She credited proactive measures for preventing accidents and said the concept of “Safe Basant” will be adopted in other cities as well.
Authorities had deployed 200 mobile clinics and 21 field hospitals across Lahore, including Liberty and inner-city areas, to ensure emergency services were available. The Chief Minister reminded the public that Basant’s final day is Sunday and urged everyone to continue exercising caution.
