Pakistani security and intelligence agencies have made a major breakthrough in the investigation into the suicide bombing in Trilai Kalan on Friday, arresting four facilitators of the attacker along with the Afghan-based Daesh mastermind who orchestrated the assault, according to security sources.
The arrests followed coordinated intelligence-based raids conducted in Peshawar and Nowshera, based on a combination of technical intelligence and human intelligence. Officials said the operations led to the identification and detention of key individuals who facilitated the suicide attack that targeted the federal capital.
Security sources said investigations have established that the planning, training and ideological indoctrination for the attack were carried out by Daesh elements operating from Afghanistan. The Afghan national arrested during the raids has been identified as the principal mastermind behind the Trilai Kalan attack.
According to officials, Daesh and other Khwarij organisations, operating under the patronage of the Afghan Taliban, continue to pose a serious threat to regional and global peace. The sources said evidence gathered during the investigation further reinforces concerns about cross-border terrorist networks using Afghan soil to plan and direct attacks inside Pakistan.
During the intelligence-led operations, one security personnel embraced martyrdom, while three others sustained injuries. The injured are reported to be receiving medical treatment.
Security agencies said further intelligence-based operations against Khwarij elements are under way, reaffirming that the counterterrorism campaign will continue until all networks involved in planning, facilitating and executing terrorist attacks are dismantled.
