The Kingdom of Cambodia has announced that it will host the forthcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) in August or September 2026. The announcement was made by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, during a high-level breakfast meeting with Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Chairman of the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Founding Chairman of the ISC.
The Senate President Hun Sen specially requested a private breakfast meeting with Chairman Gilani, accompanied by his two sons, reflecting the importance attached to the engagement and the strength of relations between Cambodia and Pakistan. The gesture highlighted the bonds of trust, mutual respect and cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, President Hun Sen formally announced Cambodia’s decision to host the ISC, citing consultations with and encouragement from Chairman Gilani. The announcement acknowledged Chairman Gilani’s leadership in developing the ISC into a credible global parliamentary platform and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to supporting its continued growth. Both leaders emphasized their shared dedication to parliamentary diplomacy, peace and international cooperation, expressing confidence that the conference would further enhance Cambodia’s engagement with parliamentary leaders worldwide.
The breakfast meeting was attended by senior Cambodian leaders and officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Services Hun Many; Senior Ministers in charge of Special Mission Othsman Hassan and Sry Thamarong; Chairman of the 1st Commission of the Senate Ngy Chanphal; Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces and Chief of the Intelligence Department of the Ministry of National Defence Hun Manith; and Secretary General of the Senate Lay Samkol. Representatives of the business community, including Vice President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce Neak Oknha Sear Rithy and Hyatt Regency Hotel owner Neak Oknha Leang Meng, were also present.
Chairman Gilani thanked the Cambodian leadership for their warm hospitality and welcomed the decision to host the ISC, saying that the selection reflected mutual confidence, respect and a shared vision for constructive legislative dialogue. During the meeting, he suggested that Cambodia consider opening its mission in Islamabad to further strengthen bilateral relations, a proposal that received a positive response.
Chairman Gilani also extended an invitation to the Prime Minister of Cambodia to visit Pakistan, aimed at further consolidating cordial relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation between the two countries. The development is expected to further strengthen Pakistan-Cambodia relations and promote greater collaboration across multiple sectors.
