Authorities in Lahore have stepped up measures to ensure public safety, effective monitoring, and emergency preparedness during the upcoming Basant festival.
According to officials, 10 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been formed across Lahore’s 10 tehsils, each led by an Assistant Commissioner (AC). Each QRT will include members from 13 government departments, coordinating efforts to manage crowds, emergencies, and potential hazards.
Commissioner Lahore Maryam Khan stated that ACs have been appointed as conveners and will submit regular safety certificates regarding secure and unsafe buildings and rooftops. Additional inspections will be conducted by Excise & Taxation, LDA, and Walled City Authority, who will certify rooftop safety.
City Police Chief (CCPO) Lahore emphasized that unruly behavior will not be tolerated. Legal action will be taken against violations of the Punjab Sound System Act, 2015, and efforts to crack down on illegal kite flying and the use of metallic strings (manja) will continue without interruption.
Officials also highlighted that while cultural activities are encouraged during Basant, religious, social, and moral values must be respected at all times.
