Sohail Afridi questions eye surgery at PIMS

2 min read

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi on Friday expressed serious concern over the medical treatment of PTI founder, saying his transfer from Adiala Jail to PIMS hospital and a reported eye operation were concealed from family members and legal counsel.

Talking to media outside the Supreme Court, the KP chief minister said the matter had moved from Adiala Jail to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences but relatives were kept uninformed, adding that the biggest concern was the absence of a retina specialist at PIMS.

He said the PTI founder’s eye surgery was carried out without informing the family, and even the timing of his hospital transfer was not shared.

Afridi said when the PTI founder fell ill, a medical examination must have been conducted inside the jail, but details of that examination were neither conveyed to the family nor to lawyers, while the government kept denying the situation for five days. He said the KP government leadership also staged a sit-in outside Adiala Jail a day earlier and came to meet the Chief Justice but were only able to meet the registrar. He added that they would continue to sit outside the court until a response was received from inside. The chief minister further said meetings with the PTI founder were not being allowed and warned that they had other options available if the situation persisted, sources said.
