New Zealand will not join the Board of Peace proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said Friday.
Luxon explained that the government had considered the offer but decided it would not accept the invitation in its “current form.”
Foreign Minister Winston Peters added on social media platform X that New Zealand, as a founding member and long-standing supporter of the United Nations, believes any board work should be complementary to and consistent with the UN Charter.
Trump formally launched the Board of Peace on Jan. 22 during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, presenting it as a platform for global conflict resolution and cooperation.
