IHC suspends orders halting judicial allowances

2 min read

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended orders stopping the payment of judicial allowances to special courts, tribunals and law officers, and has issued notices to the federal government, the Ministry of Finance, the Controller General of Accounts, and the Accountant General Pakistan, seeking their responses within two weeks.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir passed the order while hearing a petition filed by affected employees. The court also suspended the directives issued by the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General’s Office that had led to the discontinuation of the allowances.

In its order, the court declared that the letters dated September 5 and September 15, 2025, through which the allowances were stopped, stand suspended. The respondents have been directed to submit para-wise comments within two weeks.

According to the written order, counsel for the petitioners argued that the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General’s Office had unlawfully stopped judicial allowances being paid to employees. The court was informed that similar orders had already been suspended by the Multan and Bahawalpur benches of the Lahore High Court.

The Islamabad High Court has fixed February 9 as the next date of hearing in the case.
