Scotland CEO expresses sympathy for Bangladesh ahead of T20 World Cup

Scotland’s Chief Executive of Cricket, Trudi Lendblad, has expressed sympathy for Bangladesh after the team was excluded from the T20 World Cup, with Scotland taking their place at the last minute.

Speaking ahead of Scotland’s opening match on February 7, Lendblad said the team is working around the clock to prepare, but emphasized that they “truly feel for the Bangladesh team” and acknowledged that this was not the way anyone would want to participate in the World Cup.

“Access to a global event follows a process, and no one wants to be invited under such circumstances,” Lendblad said. He added that these are unusual conditions, and Scotland recognizes the disappointment of Bangladeshi players.

Lendblad also noted that people may have differing opinions on the situation, which is their right, but the reality is that Scotland was invited to join the tournament and needed to accept the opportunity.

Bangladesh had previously failed to qualify for the World Cup after losses to Italy and Jersey in the Europe regional final last July. However, following the recent tensions between India and Bangladesh, Scotland was included in the tournament in Bangladesh’s place.
