The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning to mobile phone users that SIM cards inactive for six months may be deactivated.
According to the regulator, telecom operators have the authority to block SIMs that have not been used for calls, messages, or internet services for 180 days. Once a SIM is deactivated, the number may be reassigned to another user.
The PTA clarified that after a SIM is issued to a new user, no legal claim can be made on the previous owner. Operators can allow ownership of a SIM to be maintained for a specific period if a written request or email is submitted.
The authority urged users to ensure regular use of their SIMs to avoid potential inconvenience.
