Indian playback singer Kumar Sanu has won a significant legal victory in his defamation case against his former wife, Rita Bhattacharya, who had filed a ₹50 crore suit over alleged reputational damage.
According to Indian media, the Bombay High Court has barred Rita Bhattacharya from making any statements against Kumar Sanu in public, including on print, digital, social media, or in interviews. The bench, headed by Justice Milind Jadhav, issued a restraining order to prevent her from making any negative, derogatory, or controversial remarks about the singer or his family.
The court also instructed media houses to refrain from publishing or broadcasting content that could harm Kumar Sanu’s professional reputation, dignity, or public image. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for January 28, 2026, where reconciliation options may also be explored.
Kumar Sanu welcomed the interim court order, stating that prior controversial statements had damaged both his reputation and his family’s honor.
The legal dispute arose after Rita Bhattacharya accused Sanu of mistreatment during her pregnancy, deprivation of food and medical care, alleged infidelity, and extramarital relationships. Kumar Sanu denied all allegations and filed the defamation suit against his former wife.
