Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee member Aqib Javed has emphasized the importance of having Babar Azam in the team, particularly in challenging conditions. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, he said the team requires players capable of performing in all conditions.
Aqib Javed noted that Pakistani cricket has changed significantly over the years and stressed that team combinations are selected carefully based on current form and match conditions. He said that with upcoming matches in Sri Lanka, selections were made keeping those specific conditions in mind. He added that choices cannot be uniform across formats, highlighting differences between T20 and One-Day Internationals.
National team captain Salman Ali Agha said the team needs to play quality cricket in order to succeed. He acknowledged that Pakistan’s performance in the last three tournaments had not been up to expectations and described the World Cup as a “challenging event” that requires full focus. He added that the team is enthusiastic and prepared for the tournament, noting that high-scoring matches are less common in Sri Lankan conditions.
