Pakistani actress and host Zainab Qayyum, popularly known as ZQ, has voiced concern over the growing class divide in the country.
Posting on Instagram following the tragic incident at Gul Plaza in Karachi, ZQ highlighted the stark contrasts in Pakistani society. She wrote, “Right now, my feed is showing me two Pakistans — one of the elite, and the other of the poor.”
She described the elite Pakistan as a “safe, inaccessible world where discussions revolve around weddings, designer clothes, and cosmetic procedures,” while the other Pakistan represents the working class, “struggling under a collapsing economy, dying without hope for justice or accountability.”
ZQ also emphasized that the Gul Plaza tragedy represents a loss not just for the business community but for the city’s cultural heritage. She noted that the entertainment industry is also mourning the incident.
Her post received widespread agreement from social media users, many of whom expressed sorrow over the growing inequalities. One user commented, “We’ve seen this since childhood, but the gap has now become extreme.” Another noted, “This situation reflects Karachi versus the rest of Pakistan. The rich are getting richer through our taxes while ordinary people suffer.”
Several users highlighted the alarming growth of social and class divisions and criticized the lack of empathy and moral consciousness in society.
