The local body elections in the federal capital Islamabad have been postponed, with the Election Commission of Pakistan withdrawing the previously announced schedule.

According to a notification issued by the Election Commission, the schedule was withdrawn due to the Islamabad Local Government (Amendment) Ordinance, which altered the structure of local government in the city. The Commission stated that the mode of local government elections has changed following the ordinance, necessitating the withdrawal of the election schedule.

Earlier, the Election Commission had announced February 15 as the date for Islamabad’s local government elections. The new ordinance, issued by the government on January 10, restructured the local government system in the capital, prompting the Commission to revise its plans.
