Bangladesh economy grows 4.5% in first quarter of fiscal year 2025-26

Bangladesh’s economy expanded by 4.5 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, covering July 2025 to June 2026, supported by moderate growth across key sectors, provisional data shows.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics reported that industrial output surged to 6.97 percent in the July-September period, up from 3.59 percent in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year.

The services sector, which accounts for more than half of the national economy, grew by 3.67 percent, up from 2.96 percent a year earlier.

Agriculture recorded slower growth at 2.3 percent in Q1, compared with 0.6 percent in the same period of the previous year.

The World Bank projects Bangladesh’s economy to grow by 4.8 percent in the 2025-26 fiscal year, following a 4 percent expansion recorded in the previous year.
