The Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has written a letter to the Corps Commander seeking a detailed security briefing amid growing concerns over the law and order situation in the province.
According to the letter, the provincial assembly has formed a special security committee, which has already received briefings from the Inspector General of Police, the Chief Secretary, and the Additional Chief Secretary. The committee has also convened an all-parties jirga and issued a joint declaration, a copy of which was attached with the letter.
The speaker stated that the security committee now wishes to receive a comprehensive briefing from Headquarters 11 Corps, particularly in the context of ongoing operations being carried out by the federal government and law enforcement agencies in the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The letter emphasized that sustainable peace and stability cannot be achieved through military operations alone without broader political, social, and development-oriented measures. It warned that continued operations could lead to further instability in the province if not accompanied by inclusive policy initiatives.
The speaker requested that an in-camera briefing for the special security committee be arranged at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on a mutually agreed date and time. However, no specific schedule was proposed in the letter.
