Former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Ilyas passes away in Lahore

Former Pakistani Test cricketer Mohammad Ilyas has passed away in Lahore, family sources confirmed. The funeral prayer (Namaz-e-Janaza) will be announced at a later date. Mohammad Ilyas had been suffering from liver cancer for several days.

Mohammad Ilyas represented Pakistan in ten Test matches and played 82 first-class matches, earning recognition for his skills and contributions to domestic cricket.

In addition to his playing career, Ilyas served as the chief selector for Pakistan’s senior national team, where he played a key role in selecting talented cricketers including Babar Azam and Umar Akmal for the first time. He also held chief selector responsibilities for Pakistan’s junior and women’s teams. Mohammad Ilyas was the father-in-law of former Test cricketer Imran Farhat.
