2 min read

Twelve ministers of the Gilgit-Baltistan caretaker government were sworn in on Tuesday at the Governor House in Gilgit, marking the official formation of the interim administration ahead of assembly elections.

Due to the absence of the governor, the oath was administered by Nazir Ahmed, speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly who administered the oath to all twelve ministers. The caretaker cabinet had been formally approved four days ago by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, enabling the interim government to assume office until the electoral process is completed.

Officials said the caretaker cabinet, working under the caretaker chief minister, will oversee all administrative and governance matters in the region. The interim government will remain in place until the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections are held.

In addition to the twelve ministers, the caretaker cabinet includes two advisors. The expanded team is expected to ensure continuity of governance during the pre-election period. The oath-taking ceremony at the Gilgit Governor House was attended by caretaker Chief Minister Yar Muhammad, former Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, and other officials and guests.

Authorities confirmed that with the swearing-in complete, the caretaker government has formally taken charge and will focus on maintaining stability and neutrality as Gilgit-Baltistan prepares for elections.
