Police face judicial scrutiny for failing to submit serious case charges

1 min read

Police investigative teams in Rawalpindi have failed to submit challans in serious and terrorism-related cases, prompting the Anti-Terrorism Court to take strict notice on Tuesday.

Judge Amjad Ali Shah of the Anti-Terrorism Court issued show-cause notices to the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani over delays in presenting charges. Additionally, District Police Officers of Attock, Murree, and Chakwal were also served notices.

The court summoned all officers to appear on January 10 at 9:00 a.m., questioning why challans are not submitted on time. The judge noted that Rawalpindi police have completely failed in presenting complete challans for serious cases, resulting in delays in hearings of terrorism-related trials.

The court directed that all police investigative teams must submit challans within 14 days to ensure timely prosecution of serious and terrorism cases.
