Cricket Australia CEO criticizes ICC over bad light rule

1 min read

Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg has criticized the International Cricket Council (ICC) over its rules regarding bad light, calling for reforms to prevent early match stoppages.

Speaking about the Sydney Test, Greenberg said that more cricket should have been played on the first day. “We are in the entertainment business. I can’t think of a sport that repeatedly leaves its fans short-changed,” he said, emphasizing the need to balance player safety with the spectator experience.

Greenberg clarified that player safety remains the top priority, adding that with modern high towers and advanced technology, there must be a solution to ensure matches continue despite poor lighting.

“I will use the platform of Australian cricket to push for positive and progressive change. We need a solution so that players don’t leave the field due to bad light,” he said.

The remarks follow the first day of the Sydney Test, which was cut short due to poor lighting, allowing only 45 overs to be played.
