Pakistan’s diplomacy and defence restore its global standing: Report says

3 min read

Pakistan has restored its strategic importance at the global level by effectively leveraging its geographical location, defence capability and diplomacy, according to an analysis published by an international journal.

The Carolina Political Review has acknowledged what it described as effective decision-making by Pakistan’s civilian government and military leadership, stating that the country regained a significant position in global politics during 2025.

According to the journal, tensions between Pakistan and India in May played a key role in highlighting Pakistan’s defensive strength and credibility. It noted that during the period of heightened regional tension, Pakistan pursued effective diplomacy that helped rebuild trust with Washington and gave bilateral relations a new direction.

The analysis said the United States has increasingly recognised Pakistan as a critical bridge connecting South Asia, the Gulf and Central Asia, placing renewed emphasis on its geographical significance. Pakistan’s unique location at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia, West Asia and the Middle East was described as a strategic advantage with growing relevance.

The journal further highlighted Pakistan’s ports, particularly Gwadar in Balochistan, as major strategic assets. It said the rising importance of Pakistan’s coastline has opened new opportunities for port development and mineral cooperation. The report added that Pakistan has maintained a careful balance by advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor while also pursuing broader, multi-directional economic engagement based on national interests.

According to the Carolina Political Review, the United States’ national security strategy released by the Trump administration in November outlined Washington’s global priorities and interests, identifying Pakistan as a key partner in achieving those objectives. The recent shift in US-Pakistan relations under the Trump administration, the report said, attracted widespread international media attention.

Analysts believe the assessment reflects a broader perception of Pakistan’s evolving role in regional stability, global trade routes and strategic cooperation amid changing international power dynamics.
