The Foreign Ministers of Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Türkiye, Yemen, along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) today have jointly issued a statement strongly rejecting Israel’s recognition of the “Somaliland” region of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
In the joint statement issued in Islamabad on December 28, 2025, the ministers expressed their unequivocal rejection of Israel’s recognition announced on December 26, 2025, citing the serious repercussions of such an unprecedented measure on peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, as well as its broader impact on international peace and security. The statement said the move reflects Israel’s full and blatant disregard for international law.
The ministers condemned the recognition in the strongest terms, stating that it constitutes a grave violation of the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, which explicitly emphasizes the protection of state sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement added that the move reflects Israel’s expansionist approach.
Reaffirming their position, the foreign ministers expressed full support for the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia and categorically rejected any measures that undermine Somalia’s unity, territorial integrity, or sovereignty over its entire territory.
The statement further noted that the recognition of parts of sovereign states sets a dangerous precedent, threatens international peace and security, and violates the cardinal principles of international law and the UN Charter.
The ministers also fully rejected any potential linkage between this measure and attempts to forcibly expel the Palestinian people from their land, stating that such actions are unequivocally rejected in all forms as a matter of principle.
