Pakistan has issued a formal demarche to the acting British Deputy High Commissioner over an anti government protest held outside the Pakistani Consulate in the UK city of Bradford, officials said on Friday.
According to sources, the British Deputy Head of Mission was summoned to the Foreign Office, where Pakistan lodged a strong protest over the demonstration. The demarche was issued as the British High Commissioner was not present in the country.
Sources said the protest was organized using the official social media account of a Pakistani political party operating in the UK. During the demonstration, protesters allegedly used highly provocative and objectionable language against Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Officials said protesters also issued threats to assassinate the Field Marshal, including threats of a car bomb attack. The government has taken serious notice of threats issued from British soil and conveyed its concerns to British authorities.
According to sources, Pakistan urged the UK government to ensure that its territory is not used to destabilize Pakistan. The demarche stressed that strict legal action should be taken against those involved and that they must be held accountable under the law.
Sources further claimed that alleged coordination between PTI-linked elements in the UK and foreign actors has become a serious test of compliance with international laws. They said Pakistan believes the party has crossed legal and diplomatic boundaries to pursue what it termed an anti Pakistan agenda for political gains.
