The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made it mandatory for all mobile phone SIMs to be registered in the name of the actual user, declaring the use of SIMs registered to other individuals illegal.
In a statement, the PTA directed mobile users to ensure that all SIMs in their possession are registered under their own names. The authority warned that using a SIM registered to someone else is a violation of the law.
The PTA said that the registered subscriber will be held fully responsible for any misuse of a SIM. According to the authority, users are personally accountable for the use of their SIMs and telecom connections, including calls, messages, and data services.
The regulator further stated that compliance with telecom usage rules is mandatory. In case of violations, legal action may be initiated against the registered subscriber.
Earlier, the PTA had also announced the phased blocking of illegally registered SIMs as part of its efforts to curb misuse and strengthen security.
