Former England cricket captain Andrew Strauss has remarried, seven years after the death of his first wife, Ruth Strauss. The 48-year-old tied the knot with 30-year-old Antonia Linus-Pet in a private ceremony in the scenic town of Franschhoek, South Africa.
The wedding was an intimate affair attended only by family members of both sides. Speaking about the ceremony, Strauss said it was held in a quiet valley east of Cape Town, which also prevented him from traveling to Australia for the start of the Ashes series.
Strauss and Antonia were first spotted together two years ago leaving a high-end London restaurant, and later attended Wimbledon in the Royal Box earlier this year. Antonia Linus-Pet, who grew up in Hong Kong, was educated at the prestigious St Mary’s Calne boarding school in the UK. She previously worked as a PR executive and currently serves as director of Linus Fine Art Advisory Limited.
This remarriage comes after a difficult period in Strauss’s life. His first wife, Ruth, passed away on December 29, 2018, at the age of 46 from a rare form of lung cancer. The couple had been married for 15 years and had two sons, Samuel, 19, and Luca, 17.
Following Ruth’s death, Strauss established the Ruth Strauss Foundation in 2019, supporting families dealing with parental loss and funding research into lung cancer. The foundation also organizes an annual “Red for Ruth” day, now a fixture in the English cricket season.
In interviews, Strauss has acknowledged that Ruth’s passing changed his outlook on life. In 2023, he stated that life is limited, prompting him to focus on meaningful pursuits and the happiness of those close to him.
