After a prolonged dry period, rainfall has finally arrived in Balochistan, bringing relief and pleasant weather to several parts of the province.
Light rain was recorded in Quetta and surrounding areas during the Saturday morning, freshening the atmosphere and lowering temperatures. Residents were seen welcoming the change in weather after weeks of dry and cold conditions.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a system of westerly winds has entered Balochistan, under which nearly 70 percent of the province is expected to receive rain. Intermittent light showers have already been reported in Gwadar, Nok Kundi, Dalbandin, Taftan, Kalat and Hub.
The Met Office said more areas are likely to receive rain during the next 24 hours. It added that on December 21, rain is expected in northern Ziarat and surrounding regions, while snowfall may occur in hilly areas, leading to a further drop in temperatures.
Rain is also forecast in Chagai, Noshki, Washuk, Panjgur, Kech, Gwadar, Kalat and Mastung. Meanwhile, Quetta, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Harnai, Chaman, Musa Khel and Zhob are expected to receive rain, with snowfall likely over mountainous areas.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during rain and snowfall, particularly in hilly regions, and to adopt precautionary measures. Meteorological experts said the recent rains are a positive development for Baluchistan.
