2 min read

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday said that cities and towns cannot be properly designed or provided with improved infrastructure unless encroachments are removed, stressing that eliminating illegal occupations is essential to resolving urban problems.

The prime minister made these remarks while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Iqbal Flyover and the signal-free expressway corridor at T-Chowk in Islamabad. He said such development projects are vital for the convenience of ordinary citizens and welcomed the provision of improved travel facilities in the capital.

Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that without clearing encroachments, efforts to improve urban planning and infrastructure would remain ineffective. He said sustainable solutions to civic issues require decisive action against illegal constructions.

The prime minister also praised Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for completing the project in a record time.

Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that within the next two years, residents would see a transformed Islamabad. He added that transparency was being ensured in all development projects and that work was underway under the Islamabad Development Vision 2027.

Mohsin Naqvi further said that the Iqbal Chowk Flyover project was completed in a record 77 days. He added that 3,000 new plants and trees were planted around the project area as part of environmental improvement efforts.
