KP launches work on circular rail project linking major cities

1 min read

Work has begun on the Circular Rail Project aimed at connecting major cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the provincial capital through a modern rail network, according to official documents.

The project plans to link four major cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Peshawar in two phases. Under the first phase, Mardan, Nowshera, and Charsadda will be connected to Peshawar through a train service to improve regional connectivity.

Pakistan Railways will provide technical support for the feasibility study of the project. The circular rail scheme was approved in 2022, but implementation was delayed due to financial and administrative challenges.

Officials said the project would help reduce travel distances between cities and ease growing traffic congestion in and around Peshawar. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Urban Mobility Authority will be responsible for overseeing the project and handling operational matters.

According to official documents, railway authorities have agreed to assist in conducting the feasibility study, which is expected to be completed within the next few months.
