ITF calls on PM to stop PIA privatisation

1 min read

The International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging the government to immediately stop the privatisation process of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

According to media reports, the letter was sent by the ITF’s General Secretary, who expressed serious concerns over the ongoing privatisation plan. The federation said the process is being carried out without taking PIA’s employee unions into confidence.

In the letter, the ITF stated that excluding workers’ representatives from such a major decision raises serious questions about transparency and fairness. The organisation warned that privatisation without consultation could negatively affect workers’ rights and the future of the national carrier.

The federation called on the prime minister to suspend the privatisation process and engage in meaningful dialogue with PIA unions and stakeholders before moving forward.

No official response from the government or the Ministry of Aviation was available at the time of filing this report.
