Australia announces playing XI for 3rd Ashes Test

2 min read

Australia has announced its playing XI for the third Ashes Test, welcoming back captain Pat Cummins and experienced spinner Nathan Lyon, officials said.

Cummins, who missed the first two matches due to injury, has recovered and will lead the side, while Lyon returns after being left out in the second Test to accommodate four fast bowlers.

Selectors have retained Travis Head and Jake Weatherald as the opening pair. Usman Khawaja, however, has been omitted from the playing XI, though Cummins emphasized that this does not mark the end of Khawaja’s international career. The captain highlighted Khawaja’s ability to score runs in multiple positions and indicated that he could return if the team requires.

Michael Neser and Brendan Doggett have been dropped, while Josh Inglis retains his spot at number seven.
Australia Playing XI: Travis Head, Jake Weatherald, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Josh Inglis, Pat Cummins (captain), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Scott Boland.

England Playing XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), James Vince, Will Jacks, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Josh Tong.
