The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast rain and snowfall in various parts of the country until December 18, prompting the National Emergency Operations Centre of the NDMA to issue a weather advisory.

According to the advisory, Islamabad and surrounding areas are expected to remain cloudy from today, with chances of rain and snowfall in northern regions until December 18. Cloudy conditions are also likely in Murree, Galiyat and nearby areas.

Rain and snowfall are expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kohistan and several parts of Gilgit-Baltistan. Similar weather conditions are likely in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as well as in parts of Balochistan.

The NDMA said a western weather system will affect northern and western parts of the country from December 13 to 15. Due to changing weather conditions, fog intensity may increase in some areas. Light to moderate rain is expected in plain areas, while snowfall is likely in upper and mountainous regions.

Heavy snowfall is forecast in Kohistan and mountainous areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Upper regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and hilly areas of Azad Kashmir may also experience heavy snowfall, which could disrupt traffic and lead to road closures at some locations.

In Balochistan, light rain is expected in Quetta, Ziarat and parts of northwestern districts, while snowfall is likely in hilly areas.

The NDMA warned that snowfall in upper areas may cause slippery road conditions, affecting traffic flow. Intermittent light snowfall is expected at several locations in northern regions.

The authority has advised tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary travel to mountainous areas during the forecast period.
